Our kindergarten through 6th grade students had a fun day last Friday, October 14th visiting Seaquist Orchards. Dale Seaquist, the farmer who formed Seaquist Orchards and planted the first cherry trees on that land in Sister Bay, rode on the bus with our students as they went through the orchards teaching them about planting, pollinating, and harvesting cherry and apple trees. Students also learned a few tricks used to keep the fruit safe from predators! The first stop off the bus was Seaquist’s Market to taste special apple cider made from a secret combination of different varieties of apples! Next stop was the apple station to taste different varieties of apples. Parents, in case you didn’t know, your children love apple slices from Seaquist! Lisa (Andersen) Seaquist kept the students happy with apples Gala-ore! Their third stop was the canning room at Seaquist. Students found out that they make jams here all winter long! Next was the three-story indoor hay maze. Finally, before boarding the bus, the students had a picnic lunch and two hours of fun on the go-carts, rope maze, and playground! Once back on the Island, students were able to visit a "drive-in" theater. They all parked at the drive-in movie theater in their own individually designed and built cardboard cars. What a fun day!
